Janlouis Rodríguez Figueroa earned his B.Sc. in Medical Microbiology from the University of Puerto Rico–Arecibo Campus in May 2022 and his Master of Public Health from the Graduate School of Public Health, UPR–Medical Sciences Campus, in July 2023. He is currently pursuing a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology at the same institution. During his MPH, he contributed to the Transitions Clinic Network study, supporting efforts to integrate community health workers with lived incarceration experience to improve access to and continuity of care for recently released individuals. The program focused on medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder and chronic disease management by addressing key social determinants of health. As a trainee in the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Training Program at the UPR Comprehensive Cancer Center, he developed a social determinants of health index and analyzed data from the Medical Monitoring Project to identify factors associated with cigarette smoking among people living with HIV in Puerto Rico. Deeply committed to advancing health equity, his research centers on the intersection of social determinants, mental health, and substance use disorders in underserved populations.
